Where to list a new MCP server, and where to look for one, in November 2026. For each directory: what it is and how it accepts new servers. Each row links the page it was checked against on 4 November 2026.
| Directory | What it is | How to list a server | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official MCP Registry registry.modelcontextprotocol.io | Metadata for publicly published servers, run by the MCP project. In preview. | For an npm package, add mcpName to package.json and publish it, then mcp-publisher init, login and publish. Remote-only servers can list a remotes URL instead of a package. Namespace is verified: GitHub login for io.github.<user>/ names, DNS for custom domains. | quickstart, remote servers |
| Glama glama.ai/mcp/servers | Searchable index of open-source MCP servers; its page title said 115,452 servers on 4 November 2026. | “Add Server” button on the directory page. | source |
| mcp.so mcp.so | Directory of MCP servers, clients, CLIs and agent skills. | Submit form with a repository URL: free review, or a $39 one-time fee to publish immediately without review. | source |
| PulseMCP pulsemcp.com | Directory of MCP servers. | Submissions and listing changes paused (page last updated 3 September 2026); it says it will pick up servers from the Official MCP Registry once it is back. | source |
| Smithery smithery.ai | Public, non-proxied directory, now powered by Arcade.dev. Proxy, server URLs, Smithery API, CLI and SDKs announced to stop on 31 October 2026. | No submission flow found on the smithery.ai homepage, checked 4 November 2026. | announcement, homepage |
| MCPfinder mcpfinder.dev | MCP server your agent calls to search the Official MCP Registry and Glama in one index and get an install config. | No separate submission: it indexes the Official MCP Registry and Glama (Glama data refreshed about once a day). | source |
For an npm package, add mcpName to package.json and publish it, then run mcp-publisher init, login and publish. Other package types (PyPI, Docker/OCI and more) and remote-only servers: see the package types and remote servers docs. MCPfinder reads from the registry, and PulseMCP says it will once it reopens.
Add the server to directories people browse, such as mcp.so (free with review). Keep the description and install command the same everywhere.
No directory is complete, and a listing is not proof that a server works or is safe. Check who published it, the repository, and the install command before you connect. See how to find MCP servers for a checklist.
If you still use a server.smithery.ai or run.tools URL, the Smithery alternative guide shows how to swap it for the vendor’s own one.
Install MCPfinder once. Search registries, inspect trust signals, and paste client-ready config.
